Places for People has appointed groundworks contractors to a £246m framework split into 13 regional lots across England and Scotland. Coinford Central and RJ McLeod secured the widest coverage, each taking places on six lots. The appointments cover a mix of national and regional groundworks specialists.
M&J Evans Construction and Houlihan & Co each won four lots. The wider contractor roster includes MV Kelly, Erith, Tamdown, O’Halloran & O’Brien and Chasetown Civil Engineering, among other firms named across the individual lot lists. The lot lists show multiple contractors appointed to each regional package.
The lots cover the North West, Yorkshire, Central West, Central East, the South East, the South West, Greater London and Scotland. The North West lot covers Lancashire, Manchester and Merseyside. Yorkshire is defined as South and West Yorkshire, while the Central West lot covers the West Midlands, Staffordshire and Warwickshire and the Central East lot takes in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire.
In the South East, one lot covers Surrey, Kent, East Sussex and West Sussex, while another spans Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex. The South West is divided into three lots: Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire; Berkshire, Hampshire and Dorset; and Bristol, Devon and Somerset. Greater London is a standalone lot.
Scotland has three lots: the Central Belt, North 1 and North 2. North 1 covers the Aberdeen area only, while the detailed area for North 2 is not specified in the published lot information.
Lot-level appointments vary by region. In the South West – South lot covering Berkshire, Hampshire and Dorset, the listed contractors are Coinford Central, DR Groundworks, John Reilly Civil Engineering, M&J Evans Construction, Renelec Groundworks and Tithegrove. The Greater London lot lists Coinford Central, Ford Civil Engineering, Fred Champion Groundworks, M&J Evans Construction, Renelec Groundworks and Tithegrove.
The work ranges from site clearance, bulk earthworks and foundations to drainage, utilities, roads, sewers and external works. Scottish packages also cover house foundations through to completed in-situ concrete floors, plot drainage, retaining wall foundations and ducting for electric vehicle infrastructure.
Greater London is the largest regional package at around £38m. The Berkshire, Hampshire and Dorset package follows at £30m, while East Anglia and the northern Home Counties account for a further £29m.
The framework therefore brings together contractors across a broad set of English regions and three Scottish areas, with several firms appointed to more than one lot. The named firms will deliver groundworks and associated civil engineering packages under the £246m arrangement.
